University of Minnesota associate professor Marcia Endres and her students are researching dairy cows to see what can be done to make them more comfortable. Why? Well, Dr. Endres has found that, when comfortable, a cow can produce up to two extra gallons of milk per day. By modifying their stall size and adding sand bedding that conforms to their bodies, as well as by improving their feed and feeding times, cows are giving more. The dairy industry contributes $2 billion to the Minnesota economy.
